Top Sports Quotes

Sports quotes can inspire, motivate, and bring a smile! Here are some of the favorite sports quotes from the 2015 – 2016 Hanover High Sports in Society class. The assignment was to select 10 quotes and write 2-3 sentences about each quote.

  1. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. (Wayne Gretzky) I find this a very good quote because it says how if you never take the chance then you will never be any good. It the players who at least take the shots that count rather than shying away from the challenge.
  2. It’s not whether you get knocked down, it whether you get back up. ( Vince Lombardi) I enjoy this quote because it is so true, the people who keep fighting can always find a way to win, a prime example of this is the 49th super bowl interception by malcolm butler.

  8. I never have left a field thinking that there was more I could have done to be ready, this gives me peace of mind. (peyton manning) As long as you try 100% of the time and you lose then there is nothing to be ashamed of as long as you did everything you possibly could have.
  9. When you win, say nothing, when you lose, say less. ( Paul Brown) You have to have pride when you win and not boast about it and move on to the next game. When you lose there’s also nothing to say about it just move on and focus on the next one.

One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man can not make a team.  ( kareem abdul-jabbar) This quote means that a team needs to work together to get a team regardless of how good one player may be on that team. Fox 25 Boston selected the Hanover – Middleboro football game as the Week #7 Game of the Week.

We are a senior elective course at Hanover High School and we would like to thank everyone at Fox 25 News for all you do for high school sports. It was an incredible honor to be selected as the Game of the Week!

Click here to see the pre-game coverage!

The opportunity created a great deal of excitement in our school and in our community! Our class used twitter to help spread the word to other South Shore towns and it paid off. We were selected to play Middleboro!

It was included in our October Thoughts on Sports:

  1. High School Sports: Hanover High vs. Middleboro Football is one of 4 candidates for the the Game of the week on Fox 25 Boston. People can vote on line! Monday morning Hanover was in 2nd place with only 8% of the vote. Hopefully things change by the deadline.

There is something special about high school sports and Friday Night Lights! Your coverage of out Patriot League Championship game, made the memory even more special. It is a moment that will stay with many of our students, student-athletes, coaches and community members!

The Hanover and Middleboro communities worked hard together to increase the vote total:

Sports Writing Prompts

Hanover High is the game of the week! Comment!

Welcome to Sports in Society. It is perhaps the best course for you because you LOVE sports! (If you do not agree with this statement, perhaps you need to reconsider your course selection.) The class requires that you are an active participant.

One of the most important ways to share experience is “Writing Prompts.” Some of the writing prompts will be consistent from year to year. Others will ask you to reflect about sports events that present themselves such as Deflatgate, trades, state championships, shootouts to determine a winner.

The only requirement for the prompts is to give a good effort. If you find a prompt does not apply to your experience, ask Mr. Molloy to provide an alternative prompt. The prompts will be given at the start or end of class or perhaps in middle of viewing an video clip (30 for 30 / 30 for 30 shorts / E:60 / Outside the Lines / Frontline / 60 minutes).

The 1st writing prompt is a little longer than usual. It will serve as an introduction.

March Writing Prompts

Thoughts on Sports by Hanover High Students

The following is a list of thoughts by students at Hanover High. For term 1, the students reflected on 10 thoughts on the first term. The students should have a variety of thoughts, not simply a comment about a sporting event.

For each thought, the student should include

  • The category: High School, Youth Sports, Professional Sports, Sports and music, Sports and marketing, etc.
  • The Event: A brief description of the event
  • Reaction: A 2-3 sentence reaction or commentary on the event.

Deductions will be made for spelling errors and there should be at least 3 links to other websites, articles or videos.

It appears the students did not understand the expectations of the assignment. Many appeared to not truly understand the reflective nature of the assignment. The 4 students who submitted the assignment could certainly improve.

Student work!

High School Sports: Varsity Field Hockey Coach Schneider wins her 500th game against Pembroke Oct. 9

3/5 points

Teacher comments: Good start, it meets the 1st requirements, however there needs to be a comment / reaction to the event.

Beat OA had an awesome practice week

2/5 points

Teacher comments: This is more of a result and does not follow the format that was modeled in the Sports Thoughts Blog. This student also shares similar thoughts showing a lack of variety in thoughts.

A suggestion to improve the thought might be:

High School Sports: It is great to be a part of a winning football team. It has been a great start to the season. My team is 4-1 and has already clinched a share of the Patriot League Title. We are looking forward to the final league game and the MIAA Playoffs.

Teacher comments: This is more of an opinion and does not follow the format that was model in the Sports Thoughts Blog.

I don’t enjoy watching golf.

2/5 points

A suggestion to improve the thought might be:

Pro Sports: Watching professional golf is not very exciting to me. I am a big fan of sports, but golf just isn’t fun to watch….. The student can explain in more detail about it.

we are about to be the game of the week cant wait to get the dub on friday http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/29967455/watch-fox25-high-school-gameday-game-of-the-week

2/5 points

This is an AMAZING opportunity for the Hanover High Sports, but again the format is not followed. The link is GREAT I love it, but it would be even better if it was in the word.

High School Sports: Fox 25 creates a great deal of excitement for high school football with the game of the week. This week our game was selected as one of four possible choices for the game of the week. It is an honor to even be considered. Out student body is excited and hopefully our community can get behind us to make this great opportunity a reality!

WEEI Interview with Tom Brady

This blog is the model for future student blogs. It is currently in a “rough draft” stage.

Requirements:

1. Catchy Title

2. Well written blog which shows a sincere effort

3. AT LEAST 4 links to websites.

WEEI is on of the best resources for Boston Sports. The Monday Morning Interview with Tom Brady is one of the best segments of the week. The Hanover High Sports in Society class listened to the interview and had a class discussion on some of the main points.

10/5 http://www.patriots.com/sites/patriots.com/files/_audio/20151005_brady_interv_weei.mp3

Pre-interview questions.

  1. Write 3 adjectives to describe Tom Brady.
  2. List the Tom Brady “gear” that you own.
  3. Write 3 sentences about your thoughts on Tom Brady.

The answers are written to the best of our ability.

How was the wedding? Youkilis is married to Brady’s sister.

Compare Football to a car? Don’t you feel comfortable with the car you are driving?

Red Zone Channel. It is different perspective and a lot of fun. It is only week 4. We have the same amount of time. We are going to see how mentally tough we are. We have Dallas this week and they are a very good team. (Never looks)

There are a lot of good teams and good players. Real high standard high expectations it is tough to win. There are a lot of good teams and good players. Teams look far different from how they well look 2 months from now. It is up to us to determine the fate of our season.

What is the most common mistake or flaw? Guys don’t get ride of the ball. What do you see?

There is a lot of things you see on TV. It is different when you are down there in the action. Why that decision. The Jets kept blitzing. Try to find solutions to problems. It is easy to be analytical when you watch on TV. (No answer to question.) It is a tough sport. Good teams find a way to get better.

Is there a part of you that wants to see the best from another team?

Class Discussions: How is the best team / player you have played against?

It is always great to play against the best players. We have guys that are out, they have guys that are out. It will be a fun game regardless. They are a very good defensive team. We have our work cut out for us? It is a good football team. We have our work cut out for us.

How big a blow is Sean Lee? He has good instincts. Blah, blah, blah. He may be back.

Do you every 2nd guess Bill? No. Our team works well. Josh and I are always talking (a timeout or T.V. time out.

Saturday Night Live, would you do it again? No definitive answers. There are some talented people. As a non-actor they want you to have fun and have a good time. A great way to go through life.

SNL has had many athletes host in the past.

Peyton vs. Tom do you think you are better? “I would take Peyton.”

Peyton Manning SNL Monologue vs. Tom Brady Monologue

Tom Brady Carnival Skit vs. Peyton United Way Skit

OFF THE WALL QUESTIONS? The millenials seem to have a different work “participation trophy mentally?” I disagree with them for adults. Youth Sports everything was really localized. You had to be top top player. I didn’t play football until I was hin high school. It is just different now. All the organized I hope my kids are late bloomers. You do worry about what their motivation will be. I think that can wear out a young individual. The competition starts so early for these kids. Sometimes it is nice for kids just to be kids. It allows the kid to develop

Class Discussion: Have you ever felt burnt out by youth sports. Describe the age and situation.

Class Discussion: What is your primary motivation for participating in sports today?

Belichick can’t seem to grow that coaching tree? Why can’t they replicate that? The NFL is a tough competitive league. It is very abnormal to experience this. Consistency is so important. When teams change their coaches that is an advantage for us. We start at a better place than these other teams. Identifying the problem. Finding solutions. “Ignore the Noise.” “Do Your Job.” Anyone can win on any week.

Cadillac Question of the Week: NFL Expansion to Europe? Would it be attractive to players. The growth of the game is great for all players. The bigger the fan base the bigger it gets. I love the experience of playing in England. There would be a lot of logistics that would have to be worked out. Taxes and travel a young player vs. veteran players. If it was easy it would have been figured out a long time ago. 3 games all sold out. I watched it at 9:30 in the morning. The league has gone to a lot of different players. It helps to go over and get a win.

The gift? I am a predictable gift giver (Uggs / under armor)
