Fall River Writing Prompts

Fall River Dreams

Introduction

Chris Writing Prompt: Describe the impact of Chris Herren’s speech on you. Opioid addiction in one of the biggest challenges facing our society. How concerned are you for classmates that they may / will face addition problems in the future? Sadly addiction affects all ages and all communities.

Preface

Describe your State Championship Awards: “A few years before 1991, quite by accident, I had gone to a banquet honoring a state championship Durfee team. Over 2,000 people had attended, including the Fall River mayor and all the city’s politicians. Rick Pitino, then the coach of the New York Knicks, had been the main speaker. They had been an awards ceremony that lasted an hour, complete with endless gifts for the players that range from the obligatory jackets, to rings, to tanning salon coupons, to fitness center memberships, the restaurant coupons, too a trip to Disney World. Oh, yeah: the coach also got a new car. It was the kind of attention an NCAA champion doesn’t receive, and I remember coming back to the office and telling everyone it had been. But I soon forgot about it, once again immersed in writing four sports columns a week for the Providence Journal Bulletin.” viii
