Massachusetts Sports Betting officially was legal on Tuesday, January 31st.

WCVB Article Massachusetts Gaming Position

“Legalized sports wagering begins at Massachusetts casinos this week, in time for fans to place bets on events ranging from the upcoming Super Bowl to the Academy Awards.

In-person betting is slated to become available to the public at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville, MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor in Everett.

Mobile sports betting is expected to launch in Massachusetts at some point in March.

Massachusetts is late to the sports betting game. More than 30 other states already allow the industry after the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018 ruled that banning sports betting was unconstitutional.”

MLK Update

Winter Season

January 20th, 2025 was Donald Trump’s Inauguration. It also is Martin Luther King Dau and about the halfway point in the season. Senior Night will be here before you know it. My goodness, how time flies. Looking back at the fall season the 16th week was Super Bowl, so all be an elite few teams were done with the season. It seems like a great time to do a mid=season check-in for athletes, fans, and students.

Winter Team Members (players and managers).

  1. Season Recap:
    1. List your record.
    2. Describe the season so far. Evaluate the team’s performance, looking at the highs and lows. Evaluate the team’s attitude and effort so far.
      1. List the high point / game.
      2. List the low point / game.
    3. Define your role on the team. Evaluate how you are filling that role. What are you doing well? What areas could you improve? What are you most happy about so far? What are you most disappointed so far?
  2. Looking ahead: Predict how the rest of the season will go. What do you hope the final record will look like? What changes do you hope can happen in the next few weeks? What changes will you personally make for the 2nd half of the season?

Non-Athletes

  1. The Routine: The life of a senior is an exciting and stressful time. Explain your weekly routine regarding school, family, work, extra-curricular activities, and hobbies. Some of you are involved in non-school-related activities like skiing, snowboarding, boxing, and working out.
  2. Hanover Fan: Have you been able to attend games so far? How many? Make some observations about the team and crowds. Who do you enjoy watching the most? What are your thoughts on the team? How do you think they will do moving forward? Post Season?
  3. Spring Sport: If you are a spring sport athlete, you should look ahead to the spring season’s start. What will you do in the next 8 weeks to get ready for the season? DON’T BLINK it will be here before you know it.
  4. Next Year’s Plans: The college process is so looooooooooong! It is annoying and can create tension between students and parents. And that is just the process. Then as Tom Petty says “The waiting is the hardest part.” Explain your journey to next year so far (either college, work, military or gap year.) Explain what it has been like hearing from schools and meeting with recruiters. Also talk about where you are in the decision process. Do you have a final decisions? Are you down to a 2-3 schools.
  5. Additional Ideas: If you could not answer #2 or #3 answer a few of these prompts. What is your hope for the next few weeks? Have you finished college applications? Are you trying to accomplish any goals or items on your bucket list? Do you have any big plans with family or friends? Ideas for lining up summer work?

You Better Be Running!!!!

Devonte Danzey @danzey53 Alarm goes off…. “just 5 more mins” Is 5 mins WORTH, YOUR Opportunity of a lifetime?

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle awakens. He has only one thought on his mind: To be able to run faster than the fastest lion. If he cannot, then he will be eaten.

Every morning in Africa a lion awakens. He has only one thought on his mind: To be able to run faster than the slowest gazelle. If he cannot, he will die of hunger.

Whether you choose to be a gazelle or a lion is of no consequence. It is enough to know that with the rising of the sun, you must run. And you must run faster than you did yesterday or you will die.

This is the race of life.
