Letter to my younger self: Here you are. The final day of Senior year! HOLY COW. You have done what NO OTHER students have done. Survived education, remote, zoom, hybrid, etc.
- Letter to a freshman student-athlete (If I knew as a freshman what I know NOW I would) – Give advice to the incoming 8th graders. What SINCERE advice would you give the student-athletes? Many of you have amazing experiences that would be helpful to the young people who will carry on the Hanover athletic tradition. Your letter should include:
- Personal introduction – Explain who you are as a student-athlete? What sports did you player? What leadership roles did you have? Any special accomplishments (league champs, all-star)? How committed were you?
- Plans for next year include college, major sports you may play – college, club, intramural
- Athletic Commitment level: Recommend specific things to do to excel in your sport(s). Talk about sacrifices that should be made? Talk about off-season workouts?
- High School vs. Youth Sports: Explain how high school is different from youth and club sports. What do coaches value in an athlete.
- Role Models: Identify your “high school” role model – Who are the athletes in your grade or the grades above you that you looked up to? Why did you look up to these individuals? What made them worthy of you admiration? Explain.
- Role of Academics: Evaluate yourself as a STUDENT! (Effort, commitment, AP classes) Explain how your studies fit in with athletics? What doors are opened (or closed) because of your academic effort? Do you aspire to compete in college athletics? If so, what schools and what level?
- Regrets: If you were to begin again as a high school athlete, what would you change? Be specific.
