Celtics Draft Picks

2020

Here is the list of the Celtics’ 2020 NBA Draft picks

Round 1, pick 14: SF Aaron Nesmith, Vanderbilt. Nesmith was considered by many scouts to be the best 3-point shooter in this draft class. He shot 52.2 percent from 3-point range and averaged 23 points per game for Vanderbilt last season.

Round 1, pick 26: PG Payton Pritchard, Oregon. Unline many first-round picks, Pritchard played four years of college basketball. Pritchard was quite successful at Oregon, winning the PAC-12 Player of the Year and was a consensus first-team All-American this past season. He also won the Lute Olson and Bob Cousy Awards in 2020.

Round 1, pick 30: Traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, according to multiple reports. The Celtics selected TCU shooting guard Desmond Bane for the Grizzlies. The Celtics will receive a future draft pick in the trade, according to The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach.

My Most Influential Coach

The most influential coach that I have played for would be my club swim coach. He was the most influential coach because there were days where he would pull the team out to tell them stories or meaningful speeches that would make us really think and influence us to always work hard and do our best. He was the kind of coach that would know how far to push you because he knew what every individual could handle. He was able to connect with each swimmer, which I thought was very important and amazing especially with club sports. I admired how caring and also harsh he could be because he had a balance of fun and he was also able to push us and be hard on us, which is important in sports. This coach helped me grow as a person because I would take all his talks and speeches to heart because I found them very meaningful. He was able to increase my love for the sport and he made me work hard and push myself to the best that I could be which I am very grateful for. He helped me grow as an athlete and allow me to receive more skills and techniques that I would never have known about.

Youth Sports: In-Town vs. Travel

Which did you prefer, In-town or Travel?

In-Town

I personally enjoyed intown basketball more than travel basketball in terms of which was more fun. Intown basketball was fun because you were placed on teams with your friends and I would look forward to playing my friends every Saturday. Intown was also a joke and you could fool around with your friends and usually the “A” team players would dominate in the town games. I would get to fool around, have fun, and not have any pressure on me. I just got to go out and play and have the time of my life.

TRAVEL

I loved to compete against other towns and represent Hanover with my friends…There is no feeling like winning the championship as a kid it felt like I was being handed the Lombardi when receiving the plastic trophies every year.

Travel basketball was also very fun but it was more serious. My dad was the coach of the “A” team from 4th grade until 8th grade. We won the championship in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade which was really fun because we would always go out to a restaurant and have a celebration party with the whole team. I definitely had better bonds and friendships with my travel team players because we would practice 3 times a week and play games every weekend. The team kind of became my friend group throughout middle school because we were all so close.

Overall I think that youth sports are so important and all kids should be a part of them even if they don’t want to play seriously when they are older. Even if they don’t like the sport, they will create friendships that they would have never created without youth sports. They also teach you many life lessons that are important early on. I think that youth sports should start to get competitive around 4th grade and you should start having to try out and be placed on teams based on your performance. I know that I had a positive experience with youth sports and I wouldn’t change a thing. I loved youth sports not only in basketball, but I loved playing youth sports in softball, soccer, and lacrosse. All though there were a lot of ups and downs, I wouldn’t be the same person I am today without youth sports and I wouldn’t change a thing about my youth sports experience.
